Employee training program under way to recognize, report child abuse
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Over the past six weeks, nearly 2,000 Penn State employees have attended the University's professional training program designed to help employees recognize and report suspected child abuse.
The program is part of Penn State's initiative to help ensure a safe community for children, said Susan Cromwell, director of workplace learning and performance in Penn State's Office of Human Resources.
The effort is being led by a team of individuals from Penn State's Center for Workplace Learning and Performance, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR), WPSU Learning and Media Design Team, University Police, Penn State Student Affairs, Intercollegiate Athletics, Centre County Women's Resource Center, faculty experts and professionals throughout the community.
Penn State donates more than $2.6 million to abuse prevention efforts
Penn State has infused more than $1.1 million into its newly established Center for the Protection of Children, based at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. That figure is more than twice the amount promised in December, when creation of the center was announced. The University also donated $1.5 million in December to the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR).
Penn State, PA Coalition Against Rape join to fight child sexual abuse
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State has formed a partnership with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center to extend the collective reach of their programs in preventing and treating sexual abuse and violence throughout the state and nation. The University has committed $1.5 million to fund a variety of initiatives the partnership will undertake. The funds will come from Penn State's share of this year's Big Ten bowl revenues.
