Pinwheels event to support child abuse prevention
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Faculty, staff and students from Penn State’s College of the Liberal Arts hope to raise $5,000 by April 18 through a public fundraising event, “Pinwheels for Prevention,” to support Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA). PCAA is a national organization whose mission to prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation’s children. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The fundraising committee will sell pinwheels at a suggested donation of $2 each. The blue pinwheel represents Prevent Child Abuse America’s efforts and nearly 900,000 pinwheels have been displayed nationwide since 2008.
The “Pinwheels for Prevention” garden will be unveiled at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at an event in front of the Sparks Building on the University Park campus. The event is open to the public and will include speakers from the College of the Liberal Arts and a representative from Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania. Thus far, a total of $2,589 and 660 pinwheels for the garden have been donated.
The Pinwheel garden will be on display through Penn State Blue-White Weekend and donations will be accepted through April 23. For more information or to donate, email pinwheels@la.psu.edu.
